RAKs are the antidote to bullying in its many forms and help to build empathy and tolerance. It's difficult when you are being badly treated to find the emotional energy to be kind to others instead of being nasty. But here's the point - it is teachable and it's about raising awareness in each of our children that this can become habit and a bad habit at that unless we do something about it.
Many kids live lives of quiet desperation in school and many truant to avoid the humiliation they can face on a daily basis. It's also not just in school, it's about how we, as parents interact and what standards we focus on. The media also has its role to play by sharing the celebrity (nasty) attitudes with impressionable young people in the guise of entertainment, not a mature broadcasting stance from my point of view.
